Rider and Ericsson Hot Air Pumping Engines

Rider and Ericsson Hot Air Pumping Engines
This is a facsimile reprint of the 1906 catalogue produced by the Rider-Ericsson Engine Co. and gives details of the Rider and Ericsson variants of the Stirling Cycle hot air engine sold by the company for pumping purposes. The Rider and Ericsson Company was probably the most successful of all the manufacturers of hot air engines, finally closing during the First World War.

The Ericsson engine was first produced in the 1880s and was the work of John Ericsson a Swede who emigrated to America in 1839. The Rider engine was developed at about the same time but was technically more efficient as it had a regenerator.

The development of electric and petrol engines led to the end of the commercial manufacture of hot air engines but they were very popular in their day. The engines featured in this catalogue were successful in every sense and it is still possible to see preserved examples running today.

This booklet is a high quality reprint of the 1906 catalogue issued by the “Rider-Ericsson Engine Co.” covering their improved Rider and Ericsson Hot Air Pumping Engines for domestic water supply and covers two distinct types of engine.
